Monira Foundation

During the last semester of my senior year, I had the opportunity to work as a video editing and videographer intern at the Monira Foundation in Jersey City, NJ. The Monira Foundation is an art gallery mostly exhibiting several current and past contemporary artists that is dedicated to expanding the reach and quality of art through various programs such as artist residencies, exhibitions, and public events. My role involved creating video content to document and promote these activities on their website, YouTube channel, and Instagram page, providing me with valuable hands-on experience in the arts sector and contributing to the foundation’s mission of fostering a vibrant creative community.

Jonas Mekas was a Lithuanian filmmaker and poet whose son, Sebastion Mekas, opened up an exhibition at Monira that featured many of Jonas Mekas' film equipment, photographs, music, books, and other fascinating trinkets. I believe this was in preparation for a book Monira was going to be releasing on Jonas Mekas' work and life. This is an Instagram Reel version of the initial Jonas Mekas exhibition video I made for Monira's YouTube Channel.

This was the Jonas Mekas book that Monira was getting ready to release. It featured several of his photographs either captured by him or by colleagues as well as some of his work that can be seen at the exhibition. This does not have any music placed inside because we were going back and forth on what should be playing in the background and ultimately decided that it would be put in once it was closer to it's release date.

The Monira Foundation has public events called Monira Fridays once a month, this one specifically being cyberpunk themed. Monira brings in many musical guests, vendors, and builds up sets where guests can take pictures in costume. This Reel was made for their Instagram page but it did not end up being used with them instead using the horizontal version.
